Louisa and Richard will provide an overview of Black History in the South West, with examples of symbols of colonialism and slavery, and ask, what is the impact of such symbols on the Black, Asian and ethnically diverse people living in the West Country today?
Why have statues become so controversial in recent months and years? What is there significance, and what are the key arguments surrounding them in the context of Black Lives Matter? This session will highlight the ways in which statues serve as symbols for wider conflicts over values.
